Political Punditry:
Enjoy the Lighter Side of Politics
Tidewater Community College’s annual Literary Festival is a product of a college committed to excellence in diversity. At TCC, the needs of our student body are as varied as our wealth of opportunities. One such targeted area is our students’ love of literature and all the experiences this can provide. Student need, we quickly discovered, extends beyond the academic arena and overflows into the community’s need as well. Therefore, our festival, now in its glorious sixth year, fulfills not only a student need but also that of the Hampton Roads community. We offer, free of charge to all students, faculty, staff and community members, an unparalleled opportunity to see literature in action, to interact with authors and exhibitors of acclaimed national renown as well as our own gifted faculty and students, to participate in intimate panel discussions and to sit back and simply satisfy the literary cravings within us all.
Since we are embarking on a very important election year, our 2008 Literary Festival focuses on political humor. And to reflect this year of political change, we are changing how we define the term "literary," with our keynote speakers being the Capitol Steps, a troupe of musical and political satirists, and Mike Luckovich, the Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist forThe Atlanta Journal-Constitution. The rest of the talented writers who make up this year's festival also offer their own unique perspectives into the humors of political punditry. We hope you come to listen, to share, and to laugh as we enjoy the lighter side of politics. Please visit www.tcc.edu/literaryfestival/events for a complete schedule of events.
