TCC off-campus Proxy access Library@TCC

What is a proxy service?

Using a username and password a proxy service verifies you are an authorized user and allows you to access full text databases and other resources from the convenience of your home or other off-campus location. If you are a currently registered student, a faculty or staff member of the VCCS or one of its colleges, you are authorized to use these resources through the VCCS proxy service. You will need a computer with an Internet connection, a username, and a password. Accounts should be available by the first day of classes of the current semester. You can view an online demonstration of remote access login to TCC Library resources.

Information on licensing restrictions are found with the descriptions of databases.

What is my username and password?
Your username and password is the same as you use for BlackBoard or myTCC. If you do not know your username and password you can look it up using myTCC.
What is the best way to log in to the databases or access e-books in the catalog?
Once you log in to myTCC use BlackBoard. You should be able to use most resources without logging in again. Click on the Research tab to access the library web site or use the quick search boxes.

If I click on a database, what happens if I'm off campus and I haven't logged in to myTCC?
When you click on one of the licensed resources you will see a screen asking for your username and password. You may be asked to enter your username and password more than once, depending on the databases you elect to use.

myTCC log in screen looks like this.

Can I use my mobile device?
Will Google Scholar find articles in the TCC databases?

Yes. When you set preferences to VCCS you will see "LinkIT" for articles Google Scholar finds that are in the TCC databases.

Are you having problems?

Frequently Asked Questions by VCCS students.

To invoke a proxy login box you need to click on one of our resources, then enter your username and password.

Set Internet Explorer to "Accept All Cookies". How?

Firewalls are security measures placed on computer networks. If your computer is protected by a firewall our proxy service will not work. You might try speaking with your computer network administrator.

Military? Using Service Portals (Dudley Knox Library) or Military OneSource Some students in the military are unable to access library databases because of the military's policies for national security. Military personnel have access to some library databases through the Department of Defense. The online services of AKO, NKO, and AFPortal include many of the same databases available at TCC.

WebTV will not work with our proxy service

Accounts should be available by the first day of classes of the current semester.

Not a student? FindItVA (For anyone with a public library card) is a collection of databases that provide access to resources such as newspapers, magazine and journal articles, and books such as encyclopedias. Materials are available for all age ranges and interests.
