Day and evening classes available |
This program provides you with
the knowledge needed to work competently as a Nurse Aide in general,
plus the added knowledge of geriatrics specifically, and will entitle
you to work for any facility that employs CNAs (i.e., hospitals, nursing
homes, private duty, and home health care).
Working under the supervision of a nurse, a Nurse Aide can take vital signs (blood pressure, pulse, etc) and assist patients with:
- Dressing
- Bathing
- Eating
- Toileting
- Walking
- Exercises
- Helping wheelchair-bound patients
(entails heavy lifting)
- Turning bedridden patients regularly
- Reporting changes to the nurse
- Safety awareness

Open House Information Sessions

- Regional Health Professions Center, Bldg M, Room MN-316, Virginia Beach Campus.
- The RHPC is located on the corner of Faculty Drive and Rosemont Road.
Nurse Aide Training Program
- Certification
- Students successfully completing the course will receive a certificate
from TCC.
- Upon completion of the program, the student will be eligible
to take the Certified Nurse Aide Exam for State certification in
Virginia.
- 120 hours of instruction
- Two courses must be completed successfully to receive a certificate (120 hours):
- NUR 27 Theory course, 4 credits (80 hours)
- NUR 90 Clinical Practicum, 1 credit (40 hours) (see requirements)
- Pre-clinical grading
- Objective testing
- Skills
training demonstration
- Clinical grading
- Demonstration of appropriate skills
and techniques learned during the pre-clinical course
- Student's
ability to appropriately demonstrate these techniques
- Required grade average
- A "C" average is required pass
the program and receive a certificate.
- Required attendance
- In order to be effectively and adequately
evaluated and to meet state requirement, students must be present for:
- all required clinical performance
hours and
- theory class
NOTE: Student may be terminated from the clinical course at any time
if it is felt that the student is a risk to the safety of the residents
or is demonstrating signs of incompetence or negligence.
Nurse Aide Training Required Materials
- Textbook: Hartman's Nursing Assistant Care-Long Term Care - second edition
AND corresponding workbook (available at TCC Bookstore, Virginia Beach campus only)
- White uniform and shoes (for lab section)
- Watch with a second hand
- Tuberculosis skin test (two-step PPD) or chest X-Ray
- Stethoscope
- Certified Background Check is required prior to the start of the Clinical portion of the program. The cost is $46.00.
Note: This program does not receive Federal Financial Aid.
