Articulated LPN Track

The articulated track is designed to assist LPN’s with work experience to move smoothly and expeditiously into the Associate Degree Nursing Program. A transition course is offered for Licensed Practical Nurses who have graduated from certain regional LPN programs within the last five years.  Enrollment numbers must be sufficient in order for the bridge course to be offered. The LPN transition course is usually offered once a year. Priority admission is offered to those LPNs who meet articulation guidelines and have graduated from one of the regional LPN programs listed below.

Chesapeake Public Schools

Eastern Shore Community College

ECPI/Medical Careers Institute

Southampton Memorial Hospital

    (Franklin City)

For additional information about the Articulated LPN Track, please review the guidelines contained in the Nursing Admissions Procedures and Information Booklet.

Advanced Placement Track

Student who seek advanced placement must meet all admission criteria. The advanced placement option is offered for LPNs who have graduated from accredited nursing programs recognized by the Virginia Board of Nursing but who do not meet the articulation guidelines. LPNs may be awarded advanced placement into the College’s Nursing Program by successful completion of a standardized nursing test and a college-developed “pharmacology calculation of dosage” test. Upon successful passing of both of these tests, students are exempt from the first semester nursing curricular courses and are awarded credit for the first semester nursing courses. Students must pay a non-refundable fee to take the standardized test.

Qualifications for advanced placement include the following:

  1. Employment for one year in a health care facility during the past three years.
  2. Original copy of completed pre-admission health record on file in the College’s Nursing Program office.
  3. Validation of the Virginia LPN license by the Nursing Program Head or designee.
  4. Completion of the “Application for Course Credit/Waiver” form.

For additional information about the Advanced Placement LPN Track, please review the guidelines contained in the Nursing Admissions Procedures and Information Booklet.
