PORTSMOUTH CAMPUS: DUAL ENROLLMENT
The Dual Enrollment program is a partnership between Portsmouth Public Schools and the Portsmouth Campus of Tidewater Community College that allows junior and senior high school students to meet the requirements for high school graduation and simultaneously earn college credit.

One of the first steps in the process, for any interested high school student, is the VPT-Virginia Placement Test which determines eligibility for the Dual Enrollment program. A Portsmouth Public Schools student should speak with his or her high school guidance counselor to arrange to take the placement test.

Dual Enrollment Eligibility Requirements:
High school junior or senior
Satisfactory scores on college placement examination (VPT-Virginia Placement Test)
Permission from parent or legal guardian
Recommendation by high school guidance counselor or high school principal
Acceptance for admission to Tidewater Community College
Advantages of Dual Enrollment:
Provides college-level instruction by qualified faculty to high school students during normal school hours
May reduce time and cost of post-secondary education
Provides access to college resources including academic advising and career counseling
Convenience and affordability of community college tuition rates (the State Board for Community Colleges sets the tuition and fees for community college courses prior to the academic year)
