General Information
The
English Computer Center (ECC) comprises three computer labs/classrooms.
B209 in the Bayside Building has 28 computers connected to a
local network and the internet, a projection screen, and a printer.
G101 and G102 in the Lynnhaven Building have the same resources
as B-209. Registered TCC students have access to useful
on-line tools, e-mail, and Blackboard. Blackboard
allows meetings in virtual space for online communication ans
file sharing. The computers are equipped with current software,
including Microsoft Word, Access, Power Point, Excel, and Front
Page, plus the new Inspiration writing software. The word processor
has spelling and grammar checkers, word count, and drawing tools, providing
an opportunity for students to improve their computer literacy.
If requested, the ECC staff can assist in using the installed
software or learning about internet searches.
Faculty Information
To reserve the ECC Lab, please do the following:
E-mail Bonnie Startt with the class designator and section and the time you would
like the lab. Please request time as early in the semester
as possible and include your first and last name and telephone
number. Include alternate dates, if available.
In order to equitably
assign lab times, we may not give you all the times in the
lab that you request. After the schedules are established,
however, we may find that we are able to add additional classes.
Those using the lab infrequently (such as orientation for
off-campus courses) will receive priority. Languages and Speech
Division classes have priority in the lab, but other divisions
may use the lab if time is available. Any faculty member or
student may use the lab if it is open and a class is not in
session; users must sign the log on the clipboard and defer
to any incoming class.
The lab staff has
irregular hours, but will make every effort to accommodate
classes, including evenings or Saturdays. (We're closed on
Sunday.) Please cancel any reserved lab time as early as possible
if it isn't needed. Please notify us with your request if
you would like a lab orientation by our staff. The orientation
is usually about twenty minutes.
