While working in the legal profession, I began volunteering at the
public library as a reading tutor. Initially, I worked with native
English speakers who never learned to read. Later, I worked with immigrants
helping them to improve their English skills. I feel a real connection
to ESL students since none of my grandparents spoke English. Eventually
my passion for working with students, and my interest in travel and
other cultures led me to pursue ESL as a full time profession. After
completing my Master’s Degree in August 2000, I began to teach
classes at TCC. It wasn’t too long ago that I was a full-time
student, so I understand the challenges my own students face. I get
great joy in encouraging my students to pursue their dreams. In my
free time, I enjoy traveling, gardening, and reading biographies.
