Owl Creek - Rudee Inlet Monitoring Project

The Rudi Inlet-Owl Creek situated in Virginia Beach is the site of numerous residential dwellings as well as private and public businesses.

In 1995, we found that there was no agency involvement in monitoring the water body. There were no available data concerning salinity, temperature, dissolved oxygen, BOD, or metals. As a public service and an educational experience for our students, we established the monitoring program in conjunction with Virginia Department of Environmental Quality.

Six sample locations were identified in the water body and are sampled once a month. In the last year and half, the data base has grown considerably.
