This group of young people took to the streets
to celebrate the European Hockey Championship won by the Czech Republic
over Slovakia. These two countries have been huge rivals ever since
they split up the former Czechoslavakia in the early 1990's.
It was a joy to see young people celebrating
with such national pride. Here they are proudly carrying their flag
and sharing exuberance over the victory with everyone. There were
never any violent demonstrations even though Prague is a city comparable
to NYC.
Athletes from the Czech Republic have won a number
of medals in the Summer Olympic Games in Sydney. I'm quite sure
there is much of this same celebration going on. The athletes will
probably be welcomed home with a huge celebration in the Olde Towne
Square of Prague.
