Professor Carlos Manuel Villalobos
Tidewater Community College welcomes Professor
Carlos Manuel Villalobos from the University of Costa Rica.
Professor Villalobos will read his
poetry as part of the upcoming
TCC Literary Festival. U of CR is the location of TCC's summer
Spanish Study Abroad Program.

| Carlos Manuel Villalobos
Naci en San Ramn de Alajuela en 1968. Tiene una
maestra en Literatura Latinoamericana y una licenciatura
en Periodismo. Actualmente es profesor de la Universidad
de Costa Rica en las escuelas de Ciencias de la
Comunicacin Colectiva y de Filologa, Lingstica
y Literatura. Trabaja tambin en la Maestra de
Comunicacin en la Universidad Federada de Costa
Rica. Ha publicado diversos ensayos acadmicos sobre
literatura, comunicacin y teoras de anlisis de
discurso. En poesa tiene editados Los trayectos
y la sangre (1992) y Ceremonias desde la
lluvia (1995). |

Ha sido ganador en dos
ocasiones del Premio Arturo Agero de la Sede de
Occidente, UCR, y su libro El primer tren que pase
(en prensa) obtuvo el Premio Editorial Costa Rica
de poesa 1999. Su obra se ha dado a conocer en
mbitos universitarios en pases como Espaa, Mxico,
Cuba, Panam y Estados Unidos, donde tambin ha
presentado ponencias sobre tpicos de Literatura
Latinoamericana y particularmente de Literatura
Costarricense. El libro de los gozos es su primer

| Carlos Manuel Villalobos was born
in San Ramn de Alajuela, Costa Rica, in 1968. He
has a Master's degree in Latin American Literature
and Licensure in Journalism. He is currently a professor
at the University of Costa Rica in the School of
Communication and in the School of Philosophy, Linguistics
and Literature. Professor Villalobos has published
various academic essays on literature, communication,
and theories and analysis of discourse. He has published
two books of poems, The Courses Traveled and
the Blood (1992) and Ceremonies from the
Rain (1995) and one novel, The Book of Pleasures.

In publication at the present time
is a third book of poems entitled, The First
Train that Passes. He has twice been awarded
the Arturo Agero Prize of the western section of
the University of Costa Rica, and he received the
Costa Rica Editor's Award for his book of poetry,
The First Train that Passes. His work has
been presented and recognized in universities in
Spain, Mexico, Cuba, Panama, and the United States,
where he has also formally presented topics and
discussions on Latin American and Costa Rican literature.
