DIGITAL ARTWORK

During my last two weeks in China I have been working on a series of portraits of students and staff here at BBI. I am planning on exhibiting this work at TCC's Visual Art Center in the Fall of this year. In addition to making the portraits I am having each sitter talk a little about their lives. I purchased a small tape recorder for this purpose. I will include excerpts from this statement with the each persons photograph in the exhibition. In addition to using my medium format camera I am taking pictures with the digital camera to post on this page.

Working with the twin lens camera in our sun room.

Park Byung Wook, a Korean student studying Chinese at BBI, recording a statement for the project.

Liu Jinan is the president of BBI. She breezed in for very quick visit to our apartment to have this photo made before rushing off to an appointment at the American Embassy.

Zhu Chang, or Linda, is a teacher in the International Journalism Department where I work. In addition to teaching courses in Translation she serves as the department's liaison with the foreign teachers. She has become one of our closest friends at BBI.

Xie Li Jian is the class leader for one of my three undergraduate classes. He is from a seaside town in Shandong Province.

Park Byung Wook is from Seoul, Korea. He is studying Chinese at BBI. We met by accident far away from BBI's campus. He is one of the most outgoing students at BBI.

Liu Jing is a Beijing native. Her father was in the army during the Cultural Revolution. He served as a bodyguard for Premier Zhou Enlai. Zhou helped him to attend Peking University, one of the top schools in China. He now is a professor of Chinese language in Beijing.
