Working Papers
February 27, 2005
To: International Education Committee
From President’s Internationalization Action Council (PIAC)
The PIAC is pleased to submit an interim report on the status of our work so far. At our meeting on February 25, 2005, we adopted the following Vision Statement:
Tidewater Community College is a national model of a strategic community college, recognized for excellence in the creation of a teaching/learning environment that prepares students for meaningful participation in a globally
competitive economy and a culturally diverse society.
The PIAC also adopted the following goals:
The PIAC also agreed to include as a strategy under curriculum to make students aware of how to be responsible stewards of the earth and the environment.”
The subcommittees will gather information and statistics on where we stand at the present time on our goals in order to project where we can be within the time frame of the 3 o 5 year internationalization strategic plan that we are developing. Where are we starting from? Where do we want to be? When do we think we can be there?
Each subcommittee will formulate objectives and strategies that are necessary to reach the appropriate goals that pertain to their portion of the plan, as well as those goals that do not fall neatly into the oversight of any one subcommittee. These are due on Wednesday, March 30. They will then be forwarded to the entire group for their consideration and thought. The next meeting of the PIAC will be on April 1, 2005 at 2:00 p.m. on the Chesapeake Campus.
Comments/suggestions on this work is invited and encouraged. Please contact any member of the appropriate subcommittee, a list of which is attached to this report.
