Arts and Design
Programs in Arts and Design Technology provide the skills necessary to enter the fields of studio arts, glass, photography, interior design, computer graphics, multimedia, and graphic design. They consist of skills-oriented or studio specialization classes teaching professional practices and employing current and traditional technologies. Most programs include portfolio preparation for the job search or application to upper-level institutions.
To meet minimum performance requirements in studio art courses, students must demonstrate visual acuity, manual dexterity (fine motor control), and the capacity to understand and follow instructions.
In Studio Arts, no prior training or experience is needed. Students who do have prior experience and/or a portfolio are encouraged to inquire about advanced placement and experiential course credit.
In Graphic Design, studio specialization courses teach professional practices and standards using current technology. Students will prepare portfolios for job search and/or application to upper-level institutions.
Art, glass, and photography courses are held at the Visual Arts Center, TCC at Olde Towne Portsmouth. Interior Design courses are taught at the Chesapeake Campus.
