Welding
The welding program prepares students for immediate employment in a number of industrial environments: shipyards, utilities, manufacturing firms, and oil refineries.
The welding program will introduce students to various types of equipment and materials used in welding and will qualify students as a welder’s helper.
A moderate level of manual dexterity and an average mechanical aptitude are helpful. It would be helpful for prospective welding students to contact the division office at 822-2301 for prior approval before enrolling.
Maritime Welding
The Career Studies Certificate in Maritime Welding will prepare students for entry-level positions as maritime welders. While some welding skills are universal, this program will focus specifically on developing the knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to obtain employment as a maritime welder.
This certificate was developed in conjunction with the Maritime Taskforce which represents more than thirty maritime companies in the region. Prior to the development of this certificate, the Division of Workforce Development coordinated the offering of welding courses with a maritime focus. Now with this certificate in place, the Portsmouth Campus takes full charge of these offerings.
This program will be offered by the Portsmouth Campus. There are some company sites, however, where welding labs may be held.
