Health Professions

The college offers a full range of health professions programs, including two-year degrees, certificates, and career studies programs. The health professions curricula at TCC are continually updated to meet the occupational needs of the community, accreditation, and the demands of state and Federal health care mandates.

The two-year AAS degree in nursing, located on the Portsmouth Campus, prepares students to sit for the National Council Licensure Exam - RN and work in a wide variety of settings, from acute care facilities to doctor’s offices. Admission to the nursing program is limited and certain prerequisites are required. For more information, contact the Nursing Program Office (822-2303) at the Portsmouth Campus and attend a nursing information session to make sure that you understand the program’s requirements and admissions procedures.

Health profession degree, certificate, and career studies programs in fourteen areas are offered on the Virginia Beach Campus. These programs prepare students to work in medical fields where patient contact ranges from limited to extensive or for employment in medical business or record-keeping occupations. Most programs are fully accredited and prepare graduates to take national or state credentialing exams.

Some of the programs carry selective admission requirements, and you must complete prerequisite course work to be admitted. Each program has a set of technical standards that must be met by students who are accepted into the program.  Program requirements may change in accordance with federal, state, or industry standards.  Call 822-7255 for the most current information or call Tidewater Community College Information Center (757) 822-1122.
