CMVE @ TCC: Returning Student Checklist

Returning student procedures are different depending on the type of student you are.

Please choose from the options below for information specific to you.

 

ACTIVE DUTY VETERANS DEPENDENTS

 

ACTIVE DUTY

  1. Meet with a Base Representative/Academic Advisor to review class schedule and enrollment. The following items must be provided each year:

    ·  Current Military Orders

    ·  Proof of residency (item of mail with name and local address if residing off-base)

    ·  Military ID Card


  2. Pay tuition by tuition due date
    • Be sure to visit your educational liason on base for information regarding Tuition Assistance. Each branch of the service has unique requirement and processes for tuition assistance.

  3. Provide Tuition Assistance authorization to the campus business office for tuition payment. If you are also using veterans benefits, provide a copy of the TA voucher to the Veterans Affairs Office for proper certification of benefits. Generally, TA pays tuition only and the Veteran benefits may be utilized to cover fees.

  4. If you are using your VA Benefits in addition to TA please follow the “Veterans” process below.


VETERANS

Each term the CMVE Veterans Affairs Offices at TCC need to be informed of your enrollment and desire to use benefits.

  1. See an Academic Advisor to enroll in classes. Classes must be a part of your curriculum.

  2. Pay tuition by tuition due date:
    • Chapter 30: proof of payment or financial aid
    • Chapter 31: VA form 1905 from Vocational Rehabilitation case manager for current term.
    • Chapter 33: Certificate of Eligibility
    • Proof of payment if using Post-9/11 GI Bill  and less than 100% eligible
    • Chapter 1606/1607: Proof of payment or financial aid

  3. Provide your class schedule and advisement transcript (see directions below) to any campus CMVE VA Office.
 

To Print an Advisement Transcript:

  1. Log into VCCS SIS
  2. On the Self Service page look for "Degree Progress/Graduation"
  3. Under "Degree Progress/Graduation" click on "My Academic Requirements"
  4. On the "My Academic Requirements" page click "View Report as PDF"
    • If you have not previously allowed "pop-ups" a small confirmation will show on the top of the web page in a Firefox browser or at the bottom for Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) browser; allow pop-ups for TCC
    • Click again on "View report as PDF"
  5. A new Window will appear titled "Academic Advising for (Your Name)"
  6. Right click, then click "print"


DEPENDENTS

Each term the CMVE Veterans Affairs Offices at TCC need to be informed of your enrollment and desire to use benefits.

  2. Pay tuition by tuition due date
    • Chapter 33 (Transfer of Entitlement for Post 9/11 Gi Bill): Certificate of Eligibility
    • Chapter 35: Financial Aid payment, or
    • Virginia Military Dependents and Survivor Benefits Authorization
    • Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship
    • MyCAA (Career Advancement Account)

  3. Provide your class schedule and advisement transcript (see directions below) to any campus CMVE VA Office.
