Diversifying the Funding Base

TCC enrollment has grown 40% in the last decade while total funding from the state, tuition and fees has dropped 10% in constant dollars. We must cultivate secondary investors to supplement the state’s support to meet the educational and training needs of Hampton Roads. Significant success has been achieved in expanding the college’s grant funding. Currently, TCC has in place, over $11 million in grants for a number of sponsored programs and initiatives. This represents an increase of over 500% in 5 years.

Additionally, the college has successfully created partnerships with businesses in Hampton Roads to leverage our funds even further. Our Workforce Development area, an entrepreneurial venture, meets the training needs of employers in Hampton Roads by providing customized training. TCC has developed training for over 600 businesses in the community including the military, municipalities, utilities, manufacturing, communications, banking, insurance, and real estate.

With positive results realized in the workforce development, grant, and partnership areas, we now focus our efforts on expanding private funding relationships.
