TCC Alerts Emergency Notification System

Tidewater Community College's location in the Hampton Roads Virginia region means we are at risk for variety of severe weather events; severe thunderstorms, tornados, hurricanes, and "NorEasters".

TCC Emergency Preparedness Office monitors the weather events and depends on data from the local National Weather Service Office in Wakefield, VA and the National Hurricane Center.

Inclement Weather Policy @ TCC

When weather or emergency conditions make it necessary to delay opening, cancel classes, or close the college, TCC will use several methods to communicate information about college operations to the community. For up-to-date information, you should check:

  • TCC's homepage;
  • The Information Center's message system at 822-1122; or
  • Local TV and radio--see [list of stations] below--one of the following closure notices will be provided by local radio and television stations (note that TV and radio stations will not normally be a source of information about the college’s return to normal operations—for that information, refer to TCC’s homepage or the Information Center’s message system):
    1. Message: The college is closed.
      Interpretation: The college is closed day and evening for students and staff.

    2. Message: The college will open/close at ________.
      Interpretation: The college will delay opening/closing at designated time for students and staff.

    3. Message: The college will open at 4:00 p.m.
      Interpretation: The college will be closed for day classes and day staff, but will open for evening classes and evening staff.

    4. Message: Evening classes are canceled.
      Interpretation: The college is closed for evening students and staff.
