The Writer's World: Paragraphs and Essays
Assignment Information:
For online students, a ll assignment information is located inside ASSIGNMENTS in Blackboard. In ASSIGNMENTS, the user will find links to each week's work. A learning module and an assignments link is located within each of those links. The student should read the information in the learning module before attempting the assignments posted for each week. On campus students will follow the same schedule although do not have to use BB unless there is a need.
Addendum: Grammar Readings are voluntary, non-graded reading assignments posted for each week in your Weekly Calendar and Assignment Schedule. It is recommended that you do the readings and take the self-tests for each chapter; however, you may choose not to do them. You have self-tests and answer keys available in ASSIGNMENTS. You may even choose not to do the grammar readings and self-tests; however, in that case you should be aware that if your writing regularly demonstrates weaknesses in these areas, your grades are likely to be below passing, in which case you will have to re-take the course. We will also be doing some grammar activities at another web site.
Forums: Discussion forums are completed in the class Discussion Board and are less formal discussions which relate to the current week's learning module. Peer Review forums are designed for use in small groups, and their purpose is to provide a place where group members may respond to each other's writing.
Emergency Information: For all meetings on campus: In the event of a bomb threat, tornado, or fire, students and staff may be asked to evacuate the building or move to a secure location within the building. Evacuation routes for movement to an external location or to a shelter within the building are posted at the front of the room. Students should review the maps and make sure that the exit route and assembly location for the building are clearly understood. If you have a disability that may require assistance during an evacuation, please let your faculty know at the end of the first class.
Students with disabilities: Students who have documented disabilities that require reasonable accommodation must send me the forms that state the need for accommodation and explain what particular accommodations will be needed. I will not be able to provide accommodation unless you submit the appropriate documentation. Our counseling department will prepare these accommodations based on your testing, which may not be more than 3 years old. If this is your case, please email or speak to me privately, and I will be happy to provide you with guidance.
Grammar Readings are posted in red for online and in italics for printed copy. Grammar readings actually include a variety of writing issues, not just grammar, including such topics as punctuation and spelling. The schedule of grammar readings posted in your calendar below are required weekly readings and will be tested.
Writing Assignments and other Due Dates: You will also see assignment deadlines and other important dates in the schedule below. Please keep an eye on your schedule each week.
If changes are made to the following schedule, they will be announced in Blackboard. The schedule is also available at the end of your Course Outline, which is posted in Course Documents.
