Economics 201 - PRINCIPLES OF ECONOMICS I

Economics 202 - PRINCIPLES OF ECONOMICS II

Personal introduction

I have been teaching economics for 35 years. This is a tremendous advantage because I have lived through enough business cycles to understand business cycles first hand. I grew up in Mount Airy, N.C. This is the home town of Andy Griffith of Mayberry fame. A speech professor once told me I have typical Southern subculturalisms in my speech pattern. I am an Eagle scout.

I received a B.A. with a concentration in economics at Wake Forest University and an M.B.A. with a concentration in economics at George Washington University. My first job was for the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation as a liquidator of banks that had failed. My next job was as an operations officer at Wachovia Bank. I entered full time teaching after this job. I have taught at Piedmont Community College, Virginia Wesleyan, Old Dominion University, and Tidewater Community College.

My wife Jo is an interior decorator. My son Matt is an attorney. My son Aaron is an electrical engineer. My hobbies are walking and dogs. I also teach Sunday School for 3 – 5 year olds.

Communication guidelines

I prefer emails or phone calls. My email address is dgreen@tcc.edu. My phone number is 483-2492. The best time to call is 9 pm. You will find me at home then. Feel free to call me any day, including weekends.

Ice breaker

I would like to know something about you. So would your fellow students. This ice breaker is an assignment which is part of your course requirements: Economics talk much about supply and demand. What do you plan to supply to the world in order to make a living, and what is the demand for this resource? Try to be specific. For example, I get people who are going to be fashion designers. Hopefully, these students know there are many people who plan the same thing and have studied the demand for this talent.
