Course
Description: This Class will discuss the hemodynamics,
anatomy, common pathologies and basic scanning protocols of vascular ultrasound
imaging.
Material
will be presented in lecture format by the instructor and student
presentations. Handouts, video tapes and film review will be utilized.
Evaluation:
All tests,
quizzes & homework will be graded. Attendance will affect grades.

Students
may not remain in the DMS program with a grade of C or less without the
approval of the program director.
Attendance
and Late Policy: All
students are expected to attend each class and turn in all assignments on time.
Any papers turned in late will be reduced by 10% of their final grade. All
assignments must be turned in by the next class session following absence.
Any
student having more than one (1)
excused absences or tardies will be penalized by 5% of their final class grade for each additional late or
absence.
Cheating
Policy:
Please refer to the TCC Catalog & Student Handbook page 35 & 36. Any
student caught cheating will be given a zero (0) on that test. Said
student may receive an automatic F in this class and accordingly be removed
from the DMS program at TCC.
Course
Objective:
To prepare the DMS student for the clinical
work environment and to enable the DMS student to function in a vascular
setting if cross training opportunities are made available upon graduation from
the program.
Student
Objectives:
·
To
learn all arterial and venous anatomy in order to pass the final examination by
a minimum score of 77%.
·
To
discuss differential diagnoses and case presentations in vascular sonography
after class discussion and readings in order to pass final examination by a
minimum score of 77%.
·
To
discuss test taking skills and practice applying them in a registry like
setting in order to pass the mock
registries and final examination with a minimum score of 77%.
·
To
recognize and discuss sonographic findings based upon class discussion, film
review and readings in order to pass the mock registries and final examination
by a minimum score of 77%.
Please
Note:
Students are responsible for being aware of the policies, procedures and
student responsibilities contained within the current edition of the Tidewater
Community College Catalog and student Handbook. Students should familiarize
themselves with the college’s policies regarding misconduct and inclement
weather policies found in the Student Handbook section of the catalog.
A
grade of W is awarded to students who withdraw or are withdrawn from a course
after the drop/add period but prior to the completion of sixty percent of the
session. For the Summer 2001 semester that date is June 28, 2002. After that
time, the student will receive a grade of F except under mitigating
circumstances that must be documented and approved by the program director. A
copy of the documentation must be placed in the students’ academic file. After withdrawing from a class, the student
will be withdrawn from the DMS program. The student may re-apply for the next
class and at that time will not be required to retake any classes successfully
passed up to that time with the exception of clinical education.
Students
should discuss their decisions with the instructor and submit any requests for
withdrawal in writing. Failure to do so may result in the student being given
an F for the class and affect the students’ re-entry into the DMS program.
