How does adding a inspiratory hold or pause effect inspiratory time, expiratory time and I:E ratio ?


Equipment

  • Hamilton Medical Galileo ventilator, set up as a time cycled ventilator
  • IngmarTest lung, equipped with patient simulator

Constant settings

To demonstrate the effect that inspiratory   hold has on inspiratory time, expiratory time and the I:E ratio ,the following ventilator settings  will be held constant, while the %Inspiratory hold is gradually increased and data collected.

  1. volume oriented time cycled ventilation
  2. Assist control mode
  3. rate of 15
  4. inspiratory time% 25
  5. Square wave
  6. Fio2 1.00
  7. PEEP 5
  8. Sensitivity pressure trigger -3cmh2o

Before you look at the data what do you think will happen to the inspiratory time, expiratory time and the I:E ratio?
