50% descending ramp
Compare the 50% descending ramp to the total descending ramp above. First, notice how they are alike. The transition from the beginning of inspiration to peak inspiratory flow are similar in that they occur almost simultaneously and they both demonstrate degrading slopes. After that the similarities end . Compare them on the Y axis, the total descending ramp produces a much higher peak flow, also compare the slopes, the total descending ramp produces a steeper slope . The next major difference, can be seen at the end of inspiration. The flow decreases from peak inspiratory flow to 50% of inspiratory flow with linear degradation. However, after flow degrades to 50 percent of peak, inspiratory flow stops, and the inspiratory flow waveform drops to baseline .
