First Steps -TCC Online
Getting Started: New and
Returning Online Students
- Apply for
Admission
- Review all information located
under New User, Resources for
Students and Blackboard.
- Online students must
be proficient users of the World Wide Web and e-mail and must
provide their own reliable, regular access to the Internet (and may use
TCC open computer labs
as well).
- Online students must
fulfill and adhere to all items designated as Student
Responsibilities, including but not limited to, all listed
technical
and skill requirements, plus any additional
requirements listed on individual course sites.
- Review the Strategies for
Success to help determine whether online education fits
your lifestyle and learning styles.
- Review the Course Information Sheets and Course site(s)
for the course(s) you are interested in.
- Enroll with TCC
- Lookup your
Student ID for Blackboard(Bb), WebEmail
and VIVA/Proxy . New
Student ID's are
generally not available until the week before classes and/or up to 72
hours after the time of registration.
If it is past the first day of classes and has been 72hrs since you
registered and you are still unable to verify your ID contact Technical Support immediately.

It is the student's responsibility to
initiate participation in each online class by contacting the professor: Students in online
classes must visit each individual Course
Web and/or Blackboard site for contact information and
class requirements.
Students
must send to each class professor no later than the last day
to add
or change registration for their course all the following
information in the body of a properly
formatted e-mail message.
7. First, visit each individual Course Web
and/or Blackboard site and review all class information and
requirements; then send the following message:
- Your full name as
registered and the name by which you would like to be known among your
classmates (for example, Pat might want to be called Patty)
- Class identification
(for example, PSY 201 H09B)
- Your VCCS provided
Web-Email Address.(double check spelling and spacing)
- Copy and paste the
following statement into a separate email message to each online
professor:
"I have visited the Course Web and/or Blackboard site and have
read the class schedule, requirements, and policies. I have regular,
reliable access to the Internet and email. I have reviewed the Resources for
Students and New User information located on the DTLS
website and can fulfill and adhere to all items designated as Student
Responsibilities, including but not limited to, all listed
technical and skill requirements."
