Attendance and Photo requirements:
- Orientation is required of all new math online students. The orientation session will be held in Room 3202 of the Walker Building on the TCC Norfolk campus. One makeup orientation session will be held in Room 3202 of the Walker Building.
- An online orientation is available for first-time students who are unable to make these dates. The link is available at: Online Orientation
- You are required to make two visits to the campus for testing. The first time is for Cumulative Test 1. This will be your 1/3 cumulative exam. The second time is for the Final Exam. Test 2, the 2/3 of the course cumulative exam, will be taken online.
- Directions to campus : The Walker Building of the Norfolk Campus is located on the corner of Granby and Freemason Streets. There is a parking garage on the corner of Freemason and Monticello which will allow you to enter the back of the Walker Building. An elevator is located toward the front of the Building on Granby Street. Room 3203 is located on the 2nd floor to your left as you exit the elevator.
- Please make arrangements now, if necessary, to be available during the testing days and times. Unexcused absences will result in a grade of 0 and failure of the course. Only those with an Instructor excused absences will be allowed to make up a missed test by making arrangements with the Instructor. If unable to find a time, the final exam grade will replace the missing test grade.
- Students who are at a great distance from campus are responsible for finding a proctored location where someone of authority can administer the tests and give you access to a computer with an Internet connection. Possible places are other community colleges, libraries, and military test and education sites. The name, address, phone number, title and email address of the proctor must be given to the Instructor in sufficient time before the test to allow the Instructor to coordinate the test taking with the proctor.
- Satisfactory attendance in this online class means that by the end of the 2nd week, you should have completed a minimum of 5 Interactive Math lessons, completed the Non-Math assignment, and posted at least one entry in the Blackboard's Math Q&A Discussion Board. You need to be up to date in your lessons by the 1/3 test date, the 2/3 test date and final exam test date.
- Photo Requirement: Please upload a small photo of yourself to the course Blackboard, for identification purposes, by the end of the first week of class.

Introduction: Math 04, Intermediate Algebra, is uniquely designed to use a computer-rich environment, group and individual instruction, and the Internet to introduce and develop the Algebra skills necessary to be successful in college-level courses.Prerequisites: Course prerequisites are Math 03 (Elementary Algebra), Compass Placement Testing, or recommendation for Math 04 or the equivalent. All students must be able to use and have access to email, and be able to use the Internet to locate specific web sites, print pages found on a web site, and download files.

Download the free software file viewers as needed. When finished, click on the test link. If the linked file opens on your computer monitor, you will be able to view your online lessons that make use of that file type.
A) You may need to download the free LiveMath plug-in located at http://www.livemath.com/download/ . Scroll down the page and find the free plug-in. However, if you
click on the polyadd.html link following, you may be asked if you would like to download the live math plug-in and you can then do so easily: polyadd.html
cannot find Microsoft Equation Editor under Insert/Object, you will have to install/reinstall it. To see if you have this software, go to Course Information/Test Files in
Blackboard and click on each link. If you can open and view each test file, then you have the necessary software. If you cannot open or view a test file, then you need to
either by/install the software, download the FREE viewer application software from the Microsoft Download Center, or rethink whether or not to take this course.Microsoft Word Viewer: Download Now

The Norfolk campus bookstore is the only bookstore from which you can purchase the site license required for this course. Do not purchase the traditional book
from the bookstore! Make sure that you let the bookstore know that you are taking the online version of Math 04. If you have already purchased the traditional text, take
the book and your receipt or class schedule back to the bookstore and use it to purchase your site license for this class. The site license is non-refundable. Since you are
purchasing a site license, your books cannot be bought back by the bookstore. You will get your book, the Personal Academic Notebook (PAN), and the CD software you
need for this Internet-based class by bringing your site license to Room 3205. After filling out and signing your license in pencil, the Math Lab assistant will exchange it for
your PAN with CD's. Check to see that everything is contained in your PAN and that your CD's are working properly.Grading Scale
S (Successful) = 75% or better proficiency
R (re-enroll) = 74% - 0% proficiency
U (Unsatisfactory) = Failure to complete the class or below 15 hours of logged computer time.
W (Withdrawal) - You can withdraw yourself by the college's withdrawal date that is located in your course schedule book. Your Instructor can also withdraw you. After 60% of a course is completed, an Instructor-initiated withdrawal will result in a grade of U except under mitigating circumstances.Grades: Your grade for this course will be derived from five sources:
Evaluates/Quizzes - 30%
Group Assignments - 15%
Participation in Group Discussion Board - 5%
Two Cumulative tests - 15% each
Final Exam - 20%
Total - 100%
A grade of Incomplete cannot be given for developmental classes.

With the implementation of the Student Information System (SIS), grades are no longer mailed by the college. You can access you grades via SIS after the end of the semester.
Overall Objectives
All students passing this course should be able to:
Perform algebraic operations with polynomials, factor polynomials and solve polynomial problems;
Solve equations and absolute value inequality problems;
Solve linear systems;
Solve mixture, rate, and work problems.;
Solve linear inequality systems by graphing;
Perform operations with rational expressions, radical expressions and rational exponent expressions;
Solve quadratic expressions by factoring, completing the square, and the quadratic formula;
Perform operations with complex numbers and solve quadratic expressions with complex roots;
Understand the concept of a function, graph functions, perform operations with functions and work with
inverse functions;
Perform operations with exponential and logarithmic functions;
Perform operations using the propertied of logarithms, and be able to solve exponential and logarithmic
equations;
Use the internet to find real-world uses of Algebra II.
