          General information and course outline; Chapter 1 of test; assignment of Essay I, responding to a source; discussion; format for essays, papers; DO NOT LIST; writing, grammar, organizational issues; MLA citings for text articles; assignment of community editorial reaction paper #1, “Living the American Dream in reverse”; ***January 17 is last day to add or change a class for 16 week course. ***January 20 is last day to drop a class for tuition refund in a 16 week course.

 

Week 3    Jan 24/26

          Community meetings (editorial #1) 1/24; continue format, grammar, writing issues discussion; Community editorial reaction #1 due 1/26; student writing 1/26

 

Week 4    Jan31/Feb 2

          WRITING WORKSHOPS, Essay I, responding to a source 1/31 and 2/2 (as needed); assignment of Essay II, comparison and contrast; read “A Modest Proposal” and “Letter from Birmingham Jail”; community meetings and discussions 2/2

 

Week 5    Feb 7-9

          ESSAY I, RESPONDING TO A SOURCE due 2/7; community meetings and discussion of writings for Essay II  2/7; student writing 2/9
