These are "field" oriented, 3 credit classes specifically designed 
to introduce the novice to the fauna and flora of the Great Dismal 
Swamp and to the birds of Tidewater.  Classes will meet at predesignated 
field sites at 8:00 am (or leave TCC, Chesapeake at 7:30 am).  Class will
consist of a single "general" meeting on campus followed by Saturday 
morning field trips (every other Saturday) according to the schedule below.  
This class will require you to study the classification, identification, and 
natural history of various birds, mammals, reptiles/amphibians, and plants,

Students will be required to maintain a daily journal.

You may find this class to be quite different from other biology classes you 
have enrolled in.  As the name implies, this class will take place in the 
field where we will make and record observations, discuss our findings, and 
take tests/quizzes.  This field experience IS YOUR CLASS TIME.  We will visit 
several habitats and we may only have one opportunity to observe certain species.  
Objectives:
1.  To train you in how to learn plants.  One of the most critical aspects of field biology requires careful 
	observation. 
2.  To help you develop critical techniques in observation and description. 
3.  To help you gain a better understanding of the natural history and ecology of plants.
