The Michael J. French, Jr. Memorial Scholarship has been established in honor of an outstanding Tidewater Community College student.  Mike French was a very active engineering student that tragically died of leukemia in August 2004.  Mike was very outgoing and was well known among his fellow engineering students.  He served as the TCC Engineering Club President during the 2001-2002 academic year and eagerly led the club in competitions, community service, and fundraising events.  He was part of a team of nine TCC students to travel to Montreal where their autonomous vehicle captured 3rd place in the 2002 ASEE Model Design Competition.  Mike also provided leadership for a team of 25 TCC engineering students that built a huge structure out of over 9000 cans, which were later donated to the local food bank, as part of the CANstruction competition.  Mike French’s commitment to the engineering program at TCC serves as an excellent example for future TCC engineering students.

The goal of this scholarship is to give financial assistance to excellent students pursuing careers in engineering through TCC’s Engineering program.
