Resume

Dear Student,

I imagine that if you have clicked on “Meet Your Professor”, you would like to know a little bit about me. I am also curious about my instructor when I am taking a class. So, I will try to tell you a little bit about myself that might satisfy your curiosity.

The first thing you might like to know is where I went to college. I went to three different colleges! My freshman year I attended a women's college in New York City. I then transferred to the University of London in England for two years of undergraduate study at the University of London. Then, I returned to the United States but to a different college in New York City, and  I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English Literature. About ten years later, I decided to further my education. I attended George Mason University and graduated with a Master of Arts (MA) in  Applied Linguistics, which certified me to teach English as a Second Language (ESL). While I was teaching ESL at Old Dominion University, I completed another masters degree - a Masters in Fine Arts (MFA) For this degree, I focused on the fine art of creative writing.

You might also like to know what I like to do when I am not teaching. My favorite activities are writing, swimming, walking, and reading. I do not like to cook!   I am married to a wonderful man, and I have two handsome sons!

I suppose the last thing you might want to know is if I enjoy teaching English to people like you. Well, yes, I do. In my opinion, being an ESL teacher at the community college is, by far, the most rewarding job in the whole world. At the close of each semester I can honestly say that my students taught me as much, if not more, than I taught them. If you would like a better idea of what I am talking about, you might read The Conjugation of Be or Second Chances, under Papers adn Publications onm y website. These essays, which were published in the local newspaper, will help you understand how I feel about my job and people like you..

If you would like a more detailed listing of my professional accomplishments, you can read my resume. If you would like to ask some questions about the program at TCC, please feel free to email me at sboland@tcc.edu. In any event, I look forward to seeing you in my classroom.

Sincerely,

Susan Boland
