ACC 211

Principles of Accounting I

Course Outline

This is a sample course outline.  The course outline for a face-to-face class will be distributed during the first class session.  The course outline for an online class will be mailed to the student’s home.

Instructor: Thomas E. Leonard, Professor

Office Telephone: 822-1131

Office Number: Martin Building Room 2622

E-Mail Address: tleonard@tcc.edu

Fax Number: 822-1189

Grading:

First Test = 25%

Second Test = 25%

Take Home Quizzes = 20%

Computer Quiz = 5%

Final Exam = 25 %

Total = 100%

A = 100% - 90%

B = 89% - 80%

C = 79% - 70 %

D = 69% - 60%

F = Below 60%

Students will be allowed to re-take ONE test (either the first test or the second test).  If a student is absent on the day of a test (for any reason), the make-up of that test counts as the re-take of that test.  Students will NOT be allowed to make-up or re-take a test after the last regularly scheduled class period for the semester.

Each take home quiz is due no later than the class after the quiz is distributed.  Quizzes will not be accepted late.  The lowest quiz grade will be dropped.  For online students the quizzes must be returned to me via email on or prior to the date listed on the course outline.

Attendance:

Since students taking Principles of Accounting I online are not required to attend class, I will not require students in face-to-face classes to attend class.  However, I do strongly recommend that you regularly attend class.  Students that attend class regularly generally perform considerably better in this class than students who do not attend regularly.

Tardiness:

Roll will be taken at the beginning of each class.  In order to be counted present, students must be in class on time.  Students that arrive late to class are a disruption for other students.  If students are habitually late to class, I reserve the right to refuse to allow them to enter the class late.

Leaving Prior to the End of Class:

Students who leave the classroom while the class is in progress create a disruption for the rest of their classmates.  Therefore, students are requested not to leave class for nonessential activities such as buying a soda or talking to a friend.  If you have a real emergency and must leave while class is still in progress, please do not return to the class prior to the end of the class or prior to the class break.

Cellular Telephones and Pagers:

Please turn off all telephones, pagers, or anything else that makes noise prior to entering the classroom.

Withdrawals:

If a student wants to withdraw from the class with a grade of “W,” it is the student’s responsibility to complete and submit the proper withdrawal forms to the college.  The last day to withdraw and receive a grade of “W” is specified in the college catalogue.

Disabled Students:

If you qualify as a disabled student under the Americans With Disabilities Act, please bring your disabilities form to me, and I will gladly provide you with the assistance necessary.

Textbook:

Fundamental Accounting Principles, 17th edition, by Larson, Wild, and Chiappetta

Student ID:

All students are required to have a TCC ID and a current semester sticker to assess campus services.  The ID office has extended office hours prior to and after the start of classes to accommodate evening, weekend, and on-line students.

Chapter Handouts:

There are 11 class handouts for ACC 211.  The handouts provide the focal point of the classroom discussion of the material to be covered in ACC 211.  Students may obtain a copy of each handout by clicking in the appropriate place on the list of chapter handouts page found on this website.  Additionally, there are verbal lectures available for each of the handouts.  If you have Real Player on your computer, all you have to do is to click where it says click here for audio lecture found at the top of each handout.  If you do not have Real Player on your computer, you may obtain a free copy  of Real Player by clicking on the place on handout #1 that says click here for Real Player.
