Description: In this year's competition each student team must design an autonomous robot/vehicle to start in a designated area in the middle of the 6’ x 8’ track, collect 8 ping-pong balls located at specified locations on the track, and deposit the ping-pong balls into a designated pocket in the corner of the track. Points are earned based on delivering the balls in the designated pocket according to various constraints, including a 180 second time limit. Bonus points can also be earned if all 8 balls are delivered into the pocket in less than 120 seconds. Each robot is allowed three trials on the track and the total score from all three trials is used to determine the total score along with scores for a team presentation before a panel of judges and a written report. See the 2008 Official Rules for full details (link to the right). Prizes: As stated in the official rules, the top three teams will receive nice plaques. The winning team may also receive additional prizes (SolidWorks provided copies of the student edition of SolidWorks to all team members on the first place team in 2007). |
