Building Your Library Collection
Benefits

  • You are able to request materials that you need so they will be in the library when you need them.

  • Patrons are a diverse group and provide a diverse list of materials they would like to see on the library shelves.

  • Faculty are experts in their fields and provide professional insight into whether materials are updated and current.

  • Faculty are knowledgeable about what courses are being taught and what materials are needed to support those courses.

  • Faculty who participate in building a library collection know what assignments, based on library holdings, will provide learning experiences for students.

  • Library staff working with patrons, especially at the Circulation Desk, know what patrons are looking for but not finding.

  • For more information read Rates of Participation by Faculty Book Selectors in a College Library by Steven Sowards.
