FAQ Intercampus Loan LRC@TCC
What is Intercampus loan?
Intercampus loan (ICL) is a service through which material held
by one TCC campus is sent to another campus for the patron's convenience.
Who may use ICL services?
TCC students, faculty, staff and community patrons are eligible
to request material be sent from the holding TCC campus library
to the campus library where they
wish to use the material. A valid TCC library card is required for this
service. Patrons who choose not to use ICL services may go directly
to the holding campus
library to obtain the materials.
How do I use ICL?
Fill out a request form for each item needed. Book and periodical
article request forms are available at the circulation desk, the
reference desk, or online.
Media request forms are available at the Media Resources desk or online.
Please fill out the forms completely to avoid delays.
How long does it take to get ICL materials?
Requests are usually initiated within 1-2 hours of receipt. Availability,
transit time, and other factors affect how long it takes for
the requested items to be
received. Material generally arrives within 3 week days, but may take longer. Plan
ahead!
Is it going to cost anything?
No, there is no charge for ICL. Patrons are responsible for all standard fines
and fees if they do not return the material once they check it out.
How will I know when ICL items have arrived?
Patrons are notified by phone or mail when the material arrives.
If we are unable to fill your request, you will be notified. You
will have one
week to pick up
the material after it is received at the requesting campus library.
How long may I keep books?
Periodical article requests are filled with a photocopy of the
article that you may keep. Books and media check out according
to the normal policy
for the material.
In general, the normal loan period is 4 weeks for books and 2 days for
media. One renewal is possible if the item is not on hold for another
patron. Media
renewal must be requested from Media Resources before the item is overdue.
Items that do not normally leave the library may be available for ICL
on an in-house
use only basis. The availability of these materials for ICL is determined
on a case-by-case basis by the campus that holds the material.
How do I return borrowed materials?
Materials borrowed through ICL can be returned to any TCC campus
LRC. Books may be returned in the book drop or to the Circulation
desk. Media items should be
returned to the Media Resources desk. When the library is closed media
items may be returned in the media drop box. Media should never be
returned to
the outside book drop; doing so may damage the material and result in replacement
charges. Please return materials on time; patrons with overdue materials
will
be blocked from checking out additional items.
What
may not be borrowed through ILL?
Reference materials are generally not available for ICL. Exceptions
may be made on a case-by-case basis; the library that holds the material
decides all exceptions.
In addition, the following material is not available for ICL:
- Reserve materials
- Complete issues of periodicals
- Computer software
- Media scheduled for classroom use
- Media with copyright restrictions which prohibit loans to another
campus
- Telecourse tapes
