Cornel West Captivates Audience

Cornel West, provocative author and intellectual, captivated a capacity crowd in the TCC Roper Performing Arts Center on Oct. 26 as a speaker in the 2011 Words of Wisdom lecture series, presented by TCC's Student Government Association.

The renowned activist and Princeton University professor noted that "success" is not about wealth and greed; it's about making a positive difference in the world, about seeking peace.

Eloquently addressing issues in education, corporate values, economic and civil disparities, West noted that no single individual, organization or government will solve the world's problems; "we'll just make it a little better."

Before the talk, TCC student leaders who organized the lecture series had a chance to meet and talk with West, who engaged them in discussion about faith and how well-being is rooted in love and justice.
