About Pat Allison:

Pat Allison joined TCC in 1997 as college-wide coordinator of student activities. In this post she plans and implants college-wide programs for TCC’s four campuses including sports teams, community events and a variety of school spirit-enhancing activities. She also serves as a faculty member teaching humanities and student development courses, and provides workforce development training in the areas of diversity, leadership and management training. About Joe Antinarella:

For three decades Joe Antinarella has been in the classroom teaching English at the secondary, post secondary and post-graduate level. He presently serves as assistant to the dean and assistant professor of English, teaching writing, grammar and world literature. Antinarella’s previous experience includes co-director at the Tidewater Writing Project. He has also taught writing at the Bodo Graduate School of Business in Norway, sixty miles north of the Arctic Circle. On four separate occasions from 1993 to 2000, he taught conversational English, practical writing, and communication skills at the Baltic States Technical University in St. Petersburg, Russia. A published author, his most recent title Tried and True, focuses on strategies and methods for teaching writing in today’s English classroom. Also, the 2006 publication, The Subject is Writing, features his chapter on the value of expressive writing in an academic environment. Antinarella holds a master of arts in liberal studies and a bachelor’s in English/education from The State University of New York at Stony Brook. |

He became coordinator of the newly accredited culinary arts program in 2005. Marie Baker began her career in the classroom as a preschool and elementary school teacher. She joined TCC as assistant professor of early childhood education in 1978 and became an associate professor in 1989. Currently she serves as program head for the early childhood education program at the Portsmouth Campus where she teaches, hires faculty, develops the curriculum and arranges internships for early childhood education students. Baker also serves as assistant to the dean. She developed the first school-age career certificate in the Virginia Community College System and the first nanny training certificate program in the Virginia. She serves as a technical assistant for the Virginia Preschool Initiative project for at-risk four-year-olds, and as a state-wide trainer for the department of social services in establishing and implementing after-school programs. Baker holds a bachelor of science in elementary education from Longwood College, a master’s in early childhood education from Old Dominion University and a has completed 41 post-graduate hours towards a doctorate in multicultural practices in higher education. |

An associate professor of English, composition, literature and critical thinking at Cypress College from 1996 to the present, Beatty developed and taught curriculum for African-American studies courses; worked closely with several college committees that spearheaded diversity involvement in the Cypress community, and won the Regina Standback-Stroud Award for commitment to diversity in higher education via the California Academic Senate, 2006. Coordinator and program developer of the TCC’s Job Skills Training Program, Leslie Boughton leads one of the most successful workforce development programs in Virginia. The program received the Virginia Community College System Excellence award for 2000 and has received over $2 million in grants from state and federal agencies. Boughton presented TCC’s Job Skills Training Program as a national model at the National Welfare-to-Work Network Consortium in 1999, 2000 and 2001. Boughton has been instrumental in the success of more than 700 area residents becoming employed full-time in positions with benefits and annual salaries of over $20,000 a year. Her professional recognition includes the YWCA of South Hampton Roads Women of Distinction Award, in the field of higher education. Boughton holds a master’s of social work with advanced standing status and is certified with the Academy of Certified Social Workers. She was published in the Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment Review and is currently completing has her certification to administer Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT®). |

Provost of the Virginia Beach Campus, Dr. Quintin Bullock leads the largest of four campuses in the TCC system, enrolling more than 20,000 students annually. He joined the college in 2002 to head up the Norfolk Campus and during his tenure made his mark as an ambassador for students’ personal growth, leadership development and academic success and for meeting their service needs. He was instrumental in establishing a Middle College program in partnership with Norfolk Public Schools and played an active role in the accreditation of the college’s culinary arts program. Prior to joining TCC Bullock served as executive dean at Monroe Community College in upstate New York. Bullock’s extensive professional background includes high school science teacher, adjunct college professor and dentist. As an EMS professor at TCC, Calogrides helps to develop curriculum and leads both basic and advanced life support courses. Since 1993 Calogrides has functioned as a paramedic provider with Nansemond-Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad and continues to work in this capacity today. An active member with the Virginia FEMA Disaster Medical Assistance Team with deployment experience, he currently serves as a training officer for the team. She also works to resolve conflicts, and deals with anger management, substance abuse, domestic violence and post traumatic stress disorder. Damrose-Mahlmann also provides career and career transition counseling for clients and students experiencing uncertainty and ambiguity about their career choices. She serves as interim dean of student services for the Norfolk Campus. In this role she welcomes new and returning students, supports students, staff and faculty in their journey as they reach their goals. Before joining TCC, Diddlemeyer worked as a language arts and science teacher at St. Thomas Aquinas School in Jamaica Plain, Mass., a language arts teacher at St. Gregory the Great school in Virginia Beach and as a communication skills specialist and assistant principal in Norfolk Public Schools. Additionally, Diddlemeyer worked as an instructor at Boe Dai Gakkou - the National Defense Academy for Japan - and at the Second Service School for the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force in Yokosuka, Japan. His military service included work on the Space Shuttle Rescue Team in Florida and as Deputy Fire Chief in Korea. He joined TCC in 2003 as program head of the Fire Science program. Todd Elliott spent the early years of his career as a ground radio communications specialist in the Air Force and Air National Guard. Elliott began his library work as a paraprofessional at the Richland County Public Library. He went on to serve as youth service librarian and branch manager at the Norfolk Public Library. He joined TCC in 2002 as reference librarian at the Norfolk Campus and presently works at the Virginia Beach Campus. About Thomas Ellis:

Tom Ellis began his teaching career as a graduate teaching fellow of English at the University of Oregon. Since then he has taught English composition and literature, and also interdisciplinary Humanities courses, at several four-year and community colleges. He now serves as Associate Professor of English and Humanities at TCC’s Norfolk Campus. He has also taught overseas on four occasions at the American College of Greece, at the Sichuan Institute of Foreign Languages in Chongqing, China, and at the Advanced Studies in England Program in Bath, an independent overseas study program affiliated with University College, Oxford, that brings in top students from 12 prominent colleges and universities on the East Coast. Besides his in-depth knowledge of English literature (especially Shakespeare) and composition pedagogy, Ellis is also an active environmentalist. He is state secretary for the Virginia Chapter of the Sierra Club, and he has written and delivered numerous conference papers to his colleagues at interdisciplinary humanities conferences both at home and abroad on what he calls "Gaian Humanism" - a concept he has coined for exploring the interface between humanistic inquiry and ecological awareness, understanding, and responsibility. Ellis holds a bachelor’s in English from Ohio Wesleyan University, a master’s and a Ph.D. in English from University of Oregon. |

A multi-trained health care professional, Ferguson is a Registered Respiratory Therapist and an American College Sports Medicine Exercise Specialist. She also has credentials in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and the Neonatal Resuscitation Program. Ferguson teaches respiratory therapy classes and clinical education. In August 2006 she developed TCC’s first polysomnography certificate program. Ferguson also works as a respiratory therapist at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters. |

A 29-year veteran of the Virginia Beach Police Department, Ray Greenwood currently serves as a lieutenant assigned to the detective bureau. In this position he supervises four property crime sergeants and 32 detectives assigned to handle cases ranging from burglaries to assaults. Greenwood developed and now teaches a 16-week class on domestic violence for TCC, as well as online offerings in criminal justice. He is a recognized presenter with police, sheriff and victim advocacy groups, and with state groups like the National Association of Attorney Generals. Leah Hagedorn earned a master of arts and a doctorate in history from University of North Carolina with a dissertation entitled Jews and the American South, 1858-1905. She has spent much of her career studying and speaking about American Jewish History. Judith Hatcher joined TCC in 2002 as a dance instructor and became a full-time associate professor of dance and physical education in 2006. Hatcher teaches a variety of dance classes from the New York City Ballet Workout to Celtic dance to beginning modern dance to ballet to jazz dance. Prior to joining TCC she was a contributor to Dance Magazine and a writer, photographer and reviewer for Onstage Magazine. She now serves a staff writer and columnist for the national publication Dancer. Hatcher is on the honor society council of the National Dance Association and serves as faculty advisor for Nu Delta Alpha, the national dance honor society. A registered radiologic technologist, Hodgis is knowledgeable about current practices, having worked in the field for 15 years. His latest works include Romeo and Juliet, Nautical Moments, A Living Nautical History of Tidewater for the American History Teacher Scholars Program, Tartuffe, Two Gentlemen of Verona, The Adding Machine, The Field and The Taming of the Shrew. He also recently served as guest director for 40th Street Stage in its production of Coriolanus. Jacob joined TCC as a faculty member in 1990 and assumed his current position in 1999. Ann Louise Johnston, professor of English and of English as a Second Language, received TCC’s Professor of the Year Award for 2006. This highly prized peer award established by the TCC Faculty recognizes excellence in teaching. Johnston, who has served 12 years at TCC as the former dean of the Languages and Speech Division at the Virginia Beach Campus, and currently as an ESL instructor, has shown dedication to working with a wide range of students, especially those studying English as a Second Language. Johnston has published articles in international journals on Mongolian literature, Turkish dialects, ESL pedagogy and the history of American English. A former Fulbright scholar in Turkey, she is also an award-winning photographer and active quilter. Terry L. Jones was named provost of the Portsmouth Campus in July 2005, after serving in the position for 18 months in an interim capacity. He will head up the new campus when it opens in 2008-09 and plans to work with faculty and staff to develop a learning-centered campus that engages learners as full partners in the learning process. His 36-year career at TCC includes serving as a history professor for 16 years and, later, as dean of the humanities and social sciences division. In 1996 Jones served as dean of instruction and student services before being named vice president for college transfer education in July 2000. Jones received his bachelor of arts and master’s degree in history from Samford University. He later completed his Ph.D. in religious history at Vanderbilt University. |

Alex J. Kajstura joined TCC in 2006 as head of the Norfolk Campus, the college’s newest campus that opened in 1997 and now enrolls more than 8,000 students. Kajstura came to Norfolk from Daytona Beach Community College in Florida, where he served for eight years, first as district-wide dean of the School of Business and Technologies and, most recently, as provost of the college’s two largest branch campuses. His expertise is in the areas of academic programs and facilities development, innovative program delivery and technology in education, including online programs. A lifelong educator who has served in five community colleges in three states, Kajstura has a reputation for facilitating partnerships with K-12 school districts and with public and private universities. Kajstura holds a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from Silesian University in Poland, a master’s degree in business administration from LeTourneau University in Texas, a master’s degree in science in organic chemistry from Texas Tech University, and a doctorate in higher education from Southern Illinois University. |

In this post he develops new business for the food service program, coordinates and supervised faculty and office staff and teaches food service classes. Prior to joining TCC he was a commercial foods instructor for P.D. Pruden Vocational Technical Center, a faculty member of Johnson and Wales teaching contemporary nutritional cuisine, including menu design and planning, and food operations and cafeteria manager at Old Dominion University. Kane holds a bachelor’s in hospitality management from Culinary Institute of America, a master’s in general management from Troy State University and more than 30 graduate study hours in hospitality management from Rochester Institute of Technology. |

A native of Norfolk, David Kiracofe attended the College of William and Mary and completed his graduate work at the University of Connecticut. His doctoral dissertation explored the development of American identity through the lens of legal proceedings against treasonable activities during the revolutionary era. His research interests include Pocahontas, early American life, the American Revolution in Virginia, and the role of historical memory and the historical imagination in the development of identity. He has published articles and reviews in professional historical journals and is the author of a forthcoming biography of Thomas Jefferson. Since completing his Ph.D. he has taught in a number of institutions of higher learning including Quinebaug Community College in Connecticut, Eastern Connecticut State University, the University of Connecticut, the United States Coast Guard Academy, Texas Tech University, the College of Charleston, and Grand Valley State University in Michigan. He joined TCC in 2005 as an American history instructor. |
