Bio:
Gary Cross became the inaugural TCC Batten Fellow, announced in fall 2008, with a project to develop the first-ever commercial medical simulations for respiratory therapy, in partnership with Sentara Health. Using high fidelity medical simulation and the human patient simulator, Cross provides quality instruction and hands-on training for TCC’s respiratory therapy students. As program lead, he maintains a strong working knowledge of state regulations and accepted practices. Cross joined TCC in 1989 as a full-time faculty member, after graduating from the respiratory therapy program himself and practicing in the field for several years. Cross will soon complete a master’s in instructional technology from Virginia Tech.

Bio:
Judy Cook has 25 years of clinical experience as a radiologic technologist and over 13 years of service as a radiologic technology instructor and clinical coordinator for upper-level students. Cook teaches image production, registry review and pathology and also directs the clinical activities of TCC’s 10-clinic affiliate program. She holds a B.Ed. from the University of Toledo.


Jennifer Ferguson

Bio:
A registered respiratory therapist and an American College of Sports Medicine Exercise Specialist?, Jennifer Ferguson teaches respiratory therapy and clinical education at TCC and developed the college’s first polysomnography certificate program. She holds credentials in advanced cardiac life support, pediatric advanced life support and neonatal resuscitation. Ferguson also works as a respiratory therapist at Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughters. She holds a B.A. from Ottawa University and an M.S. from Old Dominion University.

Bio:
A registered radiologic technologist with over 15 years’ professional experience, Ellyn Hodgis developed and implemented TCC’s first mammography program in 1997, converting it to distance learning in 2003. She teaches mammography, imaging, patient care, clinical instruction and positioning. Hodgis also serves as an expert witness and reviewer of mammography textbooks. She holds a B.S. from Old Dominion University and a master of education in instructional technology from Troy University.

Bio:
Tom Calogrides serves as dean of health professions at TCC, a division that boasts 10 active programs. A nationally-registered paramedic, Calogrides was previously a full professor in the Emergency Medical Services program. His contributions include developing and delivering state-of-the-art EMS training programs for all levels of providers, from first responders to paramedics. Calogrides is actively involved with Virginia-1 DMAT, a disaster medical assistance team with the National Disaster Medical System. He shares his time with Operation Smile and has traveled on 35 mission trips to 10 countries since the mid-1990s. Calogrides also serves as a volunteer paramedic with Nansemond-Suffolk Volunteer Rescue Squad, where he keeps his skills current.  Calogrides holds a B.S. and M.S. from Old Dominion University.
