Commencement - May 2011

TCC held its 52nd graduation exercises on May 13 at the Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, celebrating more than 1,600 students who earned associate degrees or certificates. Virginia’s Secretary of Veterans Affairs and Homeland Security, Terrie L. Suit, a TCC alumna, gave the commencement address. [Streamed Video]

President Deborah M. DiCroce (left) commended the graduates, and Terrie Suit gave the commencement address, sharing her journey into public service while earning TCC and ODU degrees along the way.

Student speaker Kay Funk (left) described the challenge of college after many years out of school, and shared the elation of meeting her long-held dream of becoming a registered nurse, comparing it to the success of her fellow graduates. TCC Professor James O'Brien (center right) received a commendation for his lifelong dedication to scholarly pursuit and student success from President DiCroce and TCC Board chair Lee Armistead. O'Brien was named the 2011 Virginia Professor of the Year by the
Carnegie Foundation.
