Tidewater Community College Appoints Chief Communications Officer

NORFOLK, VA - (Sept. 8, 2003) - Tidewater Community College (TCC), the second largest community college in Virginia, has appointed Laurie White as Chief Communications Officer, effective October 1, 2003.
White will work with media outlets to cover news and expertise from TCC's four campuses - Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth and Virginia Beach - which enroll more than 34,000 students in career-preparation and baccalaureate-transfer programs. She is currently the executive director of University News Services at the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) and serves as managing editor of RIT's University Magazine. " We are pleased to have Laurie join our team," said TCC President Deborah M. DiCroce. "Her 15-year news and public-relations experience at Rochester Institute of Technology will enrich our efforts to heighten awareness of TCC's importance and success in both the region and the Commonwealth."
In her current position at RIT, Maynard manages a team of writers, photographers, web-designers and support staff. She and her team won peer awards for the university's publications, as well as for news work, in 2001 and 2002.
Tidewater Community College (TCC) is the second largest of the 23 community colleges in the Commonwealth of Virginia, enrolling more than 34,000 students annually. It is the 37th largest in the nation's 1,600 community college network and among the 50 fastest growing large community colleges. Founded in 1958 as a part of the Virginia Community
College System, the college serves the South Hampton Roads region with campuses in Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, the TCC Jeanne and George Roper Performing Arts Center in the theater district in downtown Norfolk, and a regional Advanced Technology Center in Virginia Beach.
