TCC OFFERS TAX-PREP FOR QUALIFIED TAXPAYERS
IRS-certified volunteers to give free assistance for specific income levels
~ Assisted-filing now all online with paperless returns
HAMPTON ROADS, Va. – (Jan. 26, 2007) – Recognizing the needs of taxpayers across the region, Tidewater Community College will offer in February and March free tax-preparation services for specified income levels.
Accounting faculty members at TCC’s Chesapeake and Virginia Beach campuses administer the tax-preparation help as a region-wide community service through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA). As volunteers trained and certified by the IRS to handle simple tax returns, TCC students from the Accounting Club and the class, Federal Taxation I, provide the services with faculty supervision. All TCC-assisted tax returns will now be electronically filed from the on-campus locations.
VITA services are designated for families earning less than $40,000 and individuals earning less than $14,000. VITA volunteers are trained to identify important tax benefits like the earned-income credit, education credit and child credit.
People seeking tax help should bring a valid picture ID, Social Security card, 2005 tax return and 2006 tax documents. A closer look at TCC tax help:
