TCC TO LAUNCH COSMETOLOGY PROGRAM

May 20, 2014 — Tidewater Community College’s Center for Workforce Solutions plans to launch the TCC Cosmetology Academy, a Redken Premier School, which will combine hands-on and technical training with the latest professional techniques in the cosmetology industry.

The 48-week program will meet four nights a week beginning Aug. 11. Interested students should attend one of four information sessions to learn about the curriculum, tuition and application procedure. Sessions are from 7 to 8 p.m. For directions, visit www.tcc.edu/welcome/locations.

May 28: Norfolk Campus, Martin Building, Room 2610

May 29: Portsmouth Campus, Building A Forum

June 2: Virginia Beach Campus, Student Center, Room K320

June 3: Chesapeake Campus, Student Center, Big Otter Room

“We were approached to create this progressive academy because people in the industry believe TCC will produce a quality program,” said Lea Anne Nelson, director of continuing education at the Center for Workforce Solutions. “TCC is a 21st century college collaborating with Redken, a well-respected industry leader, in establishing innovative and affordable training that can lead to immediate employment.”

The program will be based out of TCC’s Chesapeake Campus. As a Redken Premier School, the TCC Cosmetology Academy will offer students the opportunity to use industry-recognized products and procedures that will provide them with an excellent foundation as they graduate and begin their careers.

The TCC Cosmetology Academy will provide a variety of learning environments: classroom, hands-on, online, conferences, industry representatives and other engaging activities. Program tuition includes all learning materials, supplies and exam fees.

Students will graduate with a comprehensive understanding of hair styling, skin care, nail care and makeup. Once students complete the TCC program, they are prepared to complete the Virginia state licensing exam for cosmetology.
