TCC, JAMES MADISON PARTNER FOR NEW TRANSFER AGREEMENTS IN STUDIO ARTS

July 1, 2014 — Four new agreements between Tidewater Community College and James Madison University offer Studio Art students a streamlined transfer process to complete their bachelor’s degrees.

Following successful completion of a two-year Associate of Applied Arts in Studio Arts at TCC, students are now able to transfer directly to JMU to work toward a Bachelor of Arts in Art History, a Bachelor of Arts in Studio Art, a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Studio Art or a Bachelor of Science in Studio Art.

“Our students now have all the possible options to transfer to James Madison with guaranteed transfer of all their credits,” said Christina Rupsch, director of TCC’s Visual Arts Center in Olde Towne Portsmouth. “James Madison University has one of the finest Studio Arts programs in the state of Virginia. This is a wonderful opportunity that will be of great benefit to our students.”

“This opportunity enables our students to 100 percent transfer to one of the top state universities in studio arts,” said Michelle Woodhouse, provost of TCC’s Portsmouth Campus. “This is the first transfer agreement for our students to transfer into art history. More importantly, this initiative has opened the door for more transfer opportunities for graphic design students, in particular, transferring to the Bachelor of Fine Arts in Interior Architecture.”

TCC also has agreements with Bellevue University, Chowan University and Virginia Wesleyan College for visual arts students enrolled in either the Associate of Applied Arts or Associate of Applied Science programs.

“The College of Visual and Performing Arts is pleased to enter into an articulation agreement with Tidewater Community College in the fine arts,” said George Sparks, dean of the College of Visual and Performing Arts at James Madison. “Tidewater Community College offers their fine arts students a strong curriculum through a well-credentialed faculty. We look forward to graduates of the TCC fine arts program attending James Madison University to continue and extend their extraordinary work.”

The program-to-program transfer agreements take effect immediately. Interested students should contact Rupsch at 757-822-1888.
