Veterans Day 2011

With special activities, luncheons on each campus and college-wide banners and posters, TCC honored and thanked its thousands of veterans and service members on Veterans Day, Friday, 11/11.

Among activities, TCC conducted a flag-raising ceremony; the Veterans Affairs office on the Portsmouth Campus welcomed vets to place pins on a large map noting where they served around the world; and Virginia Beach held family-oriented activities.

To help vets and their families through VetsHouse, TCC collected canned goods at distribution centers on the campuses. In other ways of support, the CMVE sponsored a team in the Norfolk Freedom Half Marathon, and TCC’s Culinary Arts program served special dinners at the Scope for runners in the 11/13 race.

Campuses were decked out in red, white and blue with American flags and Thank You posters decorating walks and walls.

Veterans enjoyed lunch on each campus and participated in a map activity, marking the spots on the map where they served.
