TCC Alumnus
Susan Sampson’s education at TCC keeps her rising through the design ranks at Northrop Grumman.
Susan Sampson is an engineering manager of piping design for Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding, the world’s leading military shipbuilder.
In this role, Sampson and her staff of 45 are responsible for design support in nuclear-powered aircraft carriers—both new construction and commissioned ships of the Nimitz-class.
A native of Virginia, Sampson graduated from Tidewater Community College in 1979 with an AAS in Drafting and Design. She went on to receive a BA in Business Administration/Management from St. Leo College and a MS in Management from the Florida Institute of Technology.
Sampson joined the company’s Newport News sector in 1979 as a junior designer, working in the Los Angeles-class submarine’s design division. She has held a number of increasingly responsible positions throughout the organization. These include a number of designer positions in the submarine division, program administrator of quality for the nuclear engineering division, and reactor plant piping design supervisor for Nimitz-class carriers.
Susan attended the Peninsula Chamber of
Commerce’s Leadership Institute and later served
as a member of the board of regents and president
of the alumni association. Active in the community, Sampson has won several awards for her
volunteer efforts.
