April Spring loves making connections.
For years, she advised Wall Street giants –
Now, worldwide, fashion clients
clamor for her Foxers.
After 15 years as a consultant in high finance – with friends and clients from Wall Street to the Federal Reserve – April Spring stepped out of that world and into the business of international fashion design, her lifelong dream.
Now the Norfolk native’s signature collections and line of popular undergarments, called Foxers, have taken her to local and global stardom. From showing her work at Silk Week in China, to a feature on the Today show, to the Buzz and back home on WVEC-TV and in The Virginian-Pilot, Spring is making the scene.
Honing her talent and business acumen all started at TCC, where she recalls feeling so “at home” and enthralled with her first computer class. “TCC fit so well for me. A smart decision both financially and in terms of quality. I knew it was up to me to make whatever I wanted of the experience.”
“TCC, and community colleges as a system, teach you to be resourceful – simply choosing to go there is resourceful...and it’s being smart with your money. The college can give you all the knowledge and guidance you need; it’s up to you to have the determination and self-discipline to use it.
“I’d tell any student: You have the same access to information, books and teaching that anyone at UVA or Harvard has; you don’t need a bigger and better college to be smarter – it’s up to you.” Spring finished her associate degree at Palm Beach Community College, then earned her bachelor’s degree at Florida Atlantic University.
From opening her first store, she built upon relationships with many great designers, extending her network from Malaysia to Ghent, where she has her new studio. “Surround yourself with good people,” advises Spring, “and your dreams will come to fruition.”
