Mission: Our mission is to offer a comprehensive program
to help students develop, evaluate and implement educational and career plans
through a variety of personalized services and resources.
Counseling: Counselors are available in the Counseling Center to provide
individual counseling which includes self-assessment, goal setting, decision-making,
and educational and career planning.
Transfer Services
The center provides services and resources to assist you in personalized educational
planning and to help you design a program to make your transfer to another college
or university less difficult.
Transfer Resources Include:
- A library of transfer materials for students browsing and counselor research.
- Information to students about transfer through a monthly calendar
of activities.
- Computer-based information about schools and majors via Discover,
Virginia View, and Internet Browsers.
- Catalogs from colleges and universities throughout the state and country.
- Transfer guides and applications from colleges and universities in Virginia.
- Guides to two-year and four-year colleges throughout the country indicating
a variety of programs of study and geographic locations.
Career Services
The center provides services and resources to assist you in career exploration
and planning, personality, interest and skills assessment, value clarification,
decision making, job search skills, resume writing, interviewing and networking
with working professionals.
Career Services Resources Include:
- Comprehensive computer-based career planning: Discover, Myers-Briggs
Type Indicator is available to students to develop self-awareness.
- Self-Directed Search helps you match your personality type with the
career and work environments that will offer them the best potential for
career satisfaction and success.
- Computer-based occupational and labor market information: Virginia
View, Discover, and Internet browsers.
- Up-to-date occupational information from a variety of trade and professional
organizations.
- Publications about occupations and the labor market.
- Job Referral
The center provides opportunities to view job postings either through
the Internet or announcements that have been faxed or sent to the center.
A wide variety of job opportunities, part-time and full-time are sent
to the center daily.
