Twelve-Month Timetable for Online Class Development
*Prior to developing a class for online delivery you should have completed:

Development sequence example:
Fall/Spring: Develop faculty web site and/or Blackboard site and course materials for a web-enhanced class for the spring. Evolve current materials into online materials over the course of a teaching semester..
Spring/Summer: Teach a web-enhanced class using the faculty web site and/or the Blackboard site to deliver materials and tests. Refine the materials during the course of the spring semester.
Fall: Teach an online class.
Twelve Months Before Class Is Offered
Course Research
- Research and evaluate other online and Web-enhanced classes in the same and similar content areas (see Research and Documentation).
- Research and evaluate online activities and resources you can link your students to.
- Become familiar with listservs and Websites of professional organizations in your field (see Resources for Faculty).
- Determine equipment, software, and facilities that are necessary and available, for example, Blackboard, web development software, scanners, listservs.
- Observe and/or participate in an online class.
Six to Nine Months Before Class Is Offered
Administrative Procedures:
- Obtain division dean approval for course development and delivery.

- Review and Submit Forms and Steps for Offering a New Online Class at TCC
- Meet with the Associate Vice President of Educational Technology, Mike Williams, MWilliams@tcc.edu. at least two semesters before the class will be offered online.
- If applicable, begin processing Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) or Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)--see Associate Vice President Educational Technology.
- Submit the Educational Technology Resources request form to request a Bb user account, course, training, Webspace...
Course Research and Development
- Identify learning objectives and methods.
- Develop class structure and materials.
- Observe and/or participate in an online class.
Training
- Contact TCC's Instructional Designer, Yanyan Yong, Ph.D., to investigate and pursue training opportunities and to discuss deploying course materials for online or web-enhanced courses and operating discussion boards, web conferencing, virtual chat, online assessment, and other capabilities.
- Implement training plan to use equipment, software, and facilities.
Three to Five Months Before Class Is Offered
Administrative Procedures
- Include class in college schedule listings, distance learning web site(s), and advertising
programs, as appropriate--see Associate Vice President Educational Technology, Mike Williams., MWilliams@tcc.edu
- Submit the Course Information Sheet Request Form for publication at least 10 days prior to priority registration
Course Development
- Continue to construct, publish, and test class materials online.
- Arrange for student and peer review of web-enhanced course site in progress.
One Month Before Class is Offered
Administrative Procedures
- Review class development log with Associate Vice President Distributed Teaching, Learning, & Services, Scott A. Langhorst, Ph.D., SLanghorst@tcc.edu and appropriate others.
Course Development
- Publish complete course information online.
- Publish a detailed schedule of class activities online.
