ACADEMIC DEVELOPMENT - SUPPLEMENTAL INSTRUCTION

** Spring 2008 Schedule in Progress**

What is Supplemental Instruction (SI) ?

> A system of tutoring designed to support students enrolled in difficult courses.

Do you want to

  • Feel more confident about subjects that are difficult for many students?
  • Have fun studying, tackling new challenges with other students, and making new friends?
  • Develop better study habits and be more successful in your classes?

If you answer "YES" to any of these questions,

  • Choose a class and section that has a Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leader AND pre-scheduled out of class study sessions.

** Spring Schedule 2008 in Progress**

HOW DOES IT WORK ?

> A student who has already been successful in the class, an SI Leader, attends select sections of difficult courses that most programs require.

> The Si Leader then holds help-sessions outside of class at times convenient for most students and helps with difficult concepts in the class.

The FACTS

> Students who enroll in difficult classes that have an SI Leader are more successful than students in the same course without an SI Leader

> Students who enroll in classes supported by an SI Leader and participate regularly in the out-of-class study sessions held multiple times each week, have a 91% chance of passing the class

> Unlike tutors, SI Leaders are available to help throughout the week, every week, from the beginning of the semester

>You will meet friends that you will continue to studywith for other classes throughout your time at TCC and beyond..
