TCC WOMEN COMPLETE A HISTORIC SEASON!!
In only its second year of existence, the TCC Lady Storm Women's Basketball team accomplished the amazing feat of finishing second in the country at the 2006 ACIS National Basketball Championship Tournament . This extramural tournament consisting of Regional Championship winners from all over the country was a grueling endeavor lasting for more than three days in California.
2006 ACIS Regional Basketball Tournament
Teams from Wisconsin, Texas, Virginia, Kentucky, Georgia, and California were represented in the tournament. The team from Tidewater competed in and WON the prestigous 2006 ACIS Regional Basketball Tournament at the University of North Carolina -- Chapel Hill , March 24th-26th. On the women's side of the tournament, there were 15 teams representing 5 different states! The ladies played six games in less than 48 hours!!!
By winning the Regional Tournament, the Lady Storm of TCC, automatically qualified for the National Championship Tournament, May 11-15, in Anaheim , CA at the Disneyland Resort. There, this team of eight students and two coaches played six more games.
The Lady Storm defeated the University of Wisconsin--Whitewater to qualify for the National Championship Game! After getting off to a hot start, the ladies were unable to hold off the team Tarelton State University as they lost 43--40 in a very exciting finish.
Point guard Andrea Jones (Virginia Beach Campus) and Forward Aisha Wood (Norfolk Campus) were both named to the 2006 ACIS All--American Team. Andrea Jones also won the 3-point shootout held at the tournament.
In all the Lady Storm had a HISTORIC season in only its second year of existence. Under the leadership of Head Coach Curtis McGill ( Chesapeake Campus student) and Assistant Coach Diana Rowe (TCC Graduate and former player) achieved more than anyone could have ever imagined! The team now truly believes that, from here, they can go anywhere!
Season Accomplishments:
- 15-7 overall record
- 3rd place finish-- VCCS State Tournament
- 1st place finish--2006 Pontiac ACIS Regional Basketball Tournament, Univ. Of North Carolina -- Chapel Hill
- National Runners Up--2006 Pontiac ACIS National Championship Basketball Tournament, Anaheim , CA
