Admissions Process

1. Determine eligibility for admission
   You are eligible for admission to Tidewater Community College if you:
   • have a high school diploma or the equivalent, GED.
   • or if you are 18 years old and able to benefit from a program of instruction.

   Note: The College reserves the right to evaluate special cases and to refuse admission to applicants when a refusal is in the best interest of the college.

2. Apply to TCC :
   • Online Application
   • Obtain a Paper Application
     • Fill and Print Application in pdf format - PDF Application Instructions
     • Request a mailed application by using the Request Form
     • Contact the TCC Info Center at 757.822.1122 or info@tcc.edu to have an application mailed to you.
     • Pick up an application at any TCC Admissions Office.
     • Return Paper Application to a TCC Admissions Office in person or by mai

5. Take Assessment Tests
   All students who wish to enroll in courses at TCC must participate in the College Assessment Testing Program . These tests are not admissions tests and are designed to help plan your best course of study and ensure your college success. The College Assessment Testing Program also provides information for students whose native language is not English (English as a Second Language - ESL).

   Exceptions:

   • Appropriate scores on SAT or ACT tests are submitted.
   • Select college-level coursework has been completed successfully.
   • To receive credit for completed coursework, complete online form to request
     Evaluation of Previous Educational Experiences.
   
   
6. Talk to a Counselor about Programs and Degrees
   Counselors are professional staff located in the campus student development, enrollment or counseling center. Academic advisors are faculty members who help students plan a course of study in their academic area. Both are available to act as academic consultants. They will help you plan your program of study for graduation, employment, or transfer.
   You are encouraged to consult a counselor or an academic advisor before each registration and to confer with one frequently during the semester regarding academic matters. It is YOUR responsibility, however, to fulfill graduation requirements. [Counseling webpage]
