APPLICATION WINDOW FOR FOR FALL 2015/SPRING 2016

OPENS FEBRUARY 1, 2015

The scholarship application process for 2015/2016: February 1, 2015 - June 1, 2015 and September 15, 2015 -  November 1, 2015.

 

 

To Apply:

1. Complete your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) online or pickup an application from the campus Financial Aid Office. Use the TCC College Code: 003712.

2. Complete your application and all additional materials required in the criteria for your scholarship.

3. Submit all materials with your scholarship application.

Please Note: All scholarships provided through the Educational Foundation can not be refunded. All

Foundation scholarships will pay directly for tuition, books and fees. Please contact your financial aid

office for futher concerns.

A-Tech Gives Back Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established by Acme Technical Group (A-TECH) to support TCC students studying Administration of Justice. A similar scholarship was established at Northern Virginia Community College. The scholarship money may be used for books, tuition, and fees.  One scholarship will be awarded annually; may be awarded in Fall or Spring.

Criteria:

• Student must be enrolled in the Administration of Justice degree program at TCC.

• Student can be a full-time or part-time student.

• Student must be a continuing student with a minimum of 24 credits.

• Student must have an overall GPA of 2.5.

Barnes and Noble Textbook Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established by Barnes and Noble College Booksellers to support the education of TCC students.  Scholarship funds should be applied to the purchase of textbooks only.

Criteria:

• Student must be enrolled in a degree or certificate program.

• Student can be a full-time or part-time student.

• Student must have not yet met the cost of attendance for the year.

• If a continuing student at TCC, student must have an overall GPA of 2.5.

• If a new student at TCC, student must have a high school GPA of 2.8.

City of Suffolk Early Childhood Development Scholarship

Description:

The City of Suffolk Early Childhood Development Scholarship was established by the City of Suffolk. The scholarship funds may be used for tuition, fees and books.

Criteria:

• Student must be enrolled in/declared a major in the Early Childhood Development program at TCC

• Student can be full-time or part-time

• Student must be a resident of Suffolk, Va

• Student must be currently employed in-field, as demonstrated by employer letter(s) of reference for a regulated childcare facility (if self-employed as a Family Care Home Provider, the home must be liscensed and parents/customers may provide the letter(s) of reference)

• Student must have completed at least one year of CHD coursework at the time of award

• Student must provide three letters of reference

Chris R. Marcia Veterans Tribute Scholarship

Description:

The College-wide Scholarship was established by Chris R. Marcia.  Mr. Marcia served in the U.S. Marine Corps.  After his service in the Marines, he attended Tidewater Community College (TCC) and went on to graduate from the University of Virginia.  Mr. Marcia believes that the scholarships he received at TCC helped him to achieve his academic goals, and he is establishing this scholarship to help afford other veterans the same opportunities given to him.  Scholarship funds should be used for tuition, fees, and books.

Criteria:

•  Student can be a full-time or part-time student currently enrolled at TCC.

  Student must demonstrate financial need.

  Student must demonstrate academic merit through a GPA of 3.0 or higher. In the 

    case of no eligible applicants, a GPA of 2.7 will be considered.

  Student must have an honorable discharge from the military (DD214).

  Student must have served at least 3-years of active duty in the military (DD214).

  Student must submit a short essay (no more than 250 words) on:

         His or her defining moment in the military

       •  How the military experience will shape his or her future career goals

Coca-Cola Enterprises Scholarship

Description:

Coca-Cola Enterprises, Inc. established this scholarship in 2009 to support scholarships for TCC students.  The funds can be used for tuition, fees, and books.

Criteria:

• Student must be enrolled in a degree or certificate program at TCC.

• Student must be a full-time or part-time student.

• Student must have not yet met the total cost of attendance for the year.

• Student must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5.

• Student must submit a brief paragraph describing his or her educational and career goals and how this scholarship will assist him or her in achieving those goals.

Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship

Description:

Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship through The Virgina Foundation for Community College Education. Will apply to Spring 2015 semsester. No Longer Accepting Applications

Criteria:

• Student must be enrolled in a degree or certificate program at TCC.

• Student must be a full-time or part-time student.

• Student must submit a brief paragraph describing his or her educational and career goals and how this scholarship will assist him or her in achieving those goals.

College-Wide General Scholarship

Description:

The College-wide General Scholarship was established through donations to the Tidewater Community College Educational Foundation.  Scholarship funds should be used for tuition, fees, and books.

Criteria:

• Student must be currently enrolled at TCC in a degree or certificate program

Continuing student (minimum of 6 completed credits)
Student must have a cumulative GPA of 2.5

Funds will be equally awarded in two semesters

Amount of scholarship award per student not to exceed tuition, fees, and/or books

Letter of recommendation is required with application from one of the following:

  TCC faculty member, faculty from another institution or employer

Daniel C. Pettway Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established by the Hampton Roads Chapter of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air Conditioning Engineers to support future HVAC professionals.  Scholarship funds may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with the student’s program.

Criteria:

• Student must be enrolled in one of the following programs: Engineering, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration, and/or the Computer Aided Drafting and Design Technology program.

• Student must submit a short essay describing how he or she intends to use his or her TCC education to pursue a career in the HVAC industry, specifically by transferring to a four-year institution, taking a position with a supplier of HVAC equipment, and/or taking a position with an engineering/contracting firm as a designer/technician.

• Student can be a full-time or part-time student.

• Student must have completed at least 20 credit hours.

• Student must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.5.

E. C. Wareheim Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established in 1994 by the E. C. Wareheim Foundation, which distributes funds to support efforts that promote the independence and personal achievement of individuals. The scholarship funds should be applied to tuition, fees, and books.

Criteria:

• Financial need
• Full-time or part-time student
• New or continuing student
• GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Enrolled in a degree, certificate or diploma program

Eric Bean Memorial Scholarship Fund

Description:
This scholarship was established by Evelyn E. Bean for the students of Tidewater Community College. Eric Bean died at age 38 in 2003. He graduated from TCC and worked in the AC/Heating business. He was a loving husband and father of two children.

Criteria:
Student must be enrolled in a degree or certificate program at TCC.

•Student must be enrolled full-time.

•Student must demonstrate financial need.

•If a continuing student at TCC, student must have an overall GPA of 2.5.

•If a new student at TCC, student must have a high school GPA of 2.8.

•Preference will be given to students studying heating and air conditioning.

Genevieve Greer Memorial Scholarship for Returning Women Students

Description:

This scholarship was established by TCC Professor Mark Greer in 2007 in honor and in memory of his mother, Genevieve Greer.  This endowed scholarship is meant to support female students who are pursuing higher education for the first time at a later point in life or who are returning to school after a break.  Funds should be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with pursuing a degree at Tidewater Community College.

Criteria:

• Student must be a female who is 25 years of age or older

• Student can be a full-time or part-time student carrying at least 9 credit hours

• Student must have not yet met the cost of attendance for the year

• Student must submit a short essay describing why she is returning to school and how this scholarship would help her succeed in her educational pursuits

George B. Pass Memorial Scholarship

Description:

George B. Pass, President of TCC for almost 25 years, was admired and respected for his outstanding ability to engage both elected and appointed state officials in the needs of the college. It was during Dr. Pass’s tenure that TCC grew from 1,000 to 20,000 students, and from a single campus to three campuses plus the Norfolk Skills Center. This scholarship is intended to provide financial assistance to students involved in community service. The scholarship will be awarded to one student each year and is applicable to tuition only.

Criteria:

• Continuing student (24 credit hours completed)
• GPA of 3.5 or higher

• Full-time or part-time student
• Enrolled in a degree, diploma, or certificate program
• Demonstrated evidence of a wide array of community service and/or civic achievement

Gerald and Kathleen Ortiz Alumni Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established by Gerald and Kathleen Ortiz to support a student who graduates from TCC. The scholarship fund shall be used for tuition, books and course related expenses.

Criteria:

• Continuing student (must be in the final semester of the degree program).
• GPA of 3.0 or higher

• Full-time student
• Enrolled in a college-wide degree program

Student must not have met the cost of attendance for the year.
• Student must be transferring to a four-year institution to continue studies toward a baccalaureate degree.

Student must agree to remain active in TCC's Alumni Association upon graduation.

• The scholarship applicant must provide an essay, in 500 words or less, on how they believe their enrollment at TCC has helped them grow as a person, how it has helped them obtain their career objectives, and how they plan on continuing a relationship with the TCC Alumni Association.

Greater Hampton Roads Chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association

Description:

This scholarship was established by The Greater Hampton Roads Chapter of the National Defense Industrial Association to support a student who is pursuing an Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in Technical Studies. The scholarship fund should be used for tuition, fees and books.

Programs considered Technical Studies Includes:

Criteria:

• A student must have minimum overall GPA of 3.0.
• A necurrentw student must have a 3.0 GPA upon entering TCC from high school.

• Full-time student or part-time student.
• Student must not have met the cost of attendance for the year.

Scholarship recipient agrees to attend at least one of the Association's meetings per year to be recognized by the Association and to meet a local dignitary who will be present at the meeting.

Hites Family Community College Scholarship

 

Description:

The purpose of this scholarship is to assist graduating students transferring from Tidewater Community College to a four-year, regionally accredited institution leading to a baccalaureate degree. The scholarship will be awarded for the 2013-14 academic year and is renewable each semester for two academic years, provided the recipient continues to meet the criteria. The award will be payable to the four-year institution over four semesters in equal amounts. Awards may be used for tuition/fees, books, and supplies. The following criteria will be used to award the scholarships:

Criteria:

• Student must have completed a minimum of 50 credit hours.
• Student must be accepted and enrolled as a full-time student in a regionally accredited four-year educational institution leading to a baccalaureate degree prior to award distribution.

• Student must have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or better at Tidewater Community College.

• During the first and second years of the student's enrollment at the four-year institution, the student must be classified as a full-time student and maintain that status throughout the semester to be eligible for renewal. Student must also maintain a 2.75 GPA during the first semester of the first year and a 3.0 cumulative GPA during each of the following semesters.  If the student attends an institution that operates on other than a semester basis or other that a 4.0 system, the equivalent institutional definitions would prevail.

• If selected, each semester the student will provide TCC a copy of their college transcript to renew the scholarship for the next semester.

• The award will be payable to the four-year institution over four semesters in equal amounts.

Joanne Randolph Nursing Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established by Robert Randolph to support TCC Nursing students. The scholarship money may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with the nursing program.

Criteria:

•  Student must be pursuing a nursing degree at Tidewater Community College.

•  Student may be a full-time or part-time student.

•  Student must demonstrate financial need.

•  Student must have a minimum GPA 3.0.

Mary Ferrell Flickinger Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established by a gift from the estate of Mrs. Mary Flickinger. It was her desire to provide aid to TCC students to pay for their education. Funds should be applied to tuition, fees, and books.

Criteria:

• Available to full time or part time students

• The applicant must have completed 6 credits

• The applicant must be enrolled in degree or certificate program

• The applicant must have a minimum GPA of 2.5

SD's Graduate Scholarship (Students Serving Persons with Developmental Disabilities)

Description:

The Students Serving Persons with Developmental Disabilities Scholarship was established by the SD Club to support deserving graduates of TCC's Special Education Program who are interested in pursuing a degree in Special Education or a related field at a four year institution.

Criteria:

• Active member of the Students Serving Persons with Developmental Disabilities (SD) Club
• Graduate of TCC's Special Education Program with interest in pursuing Special Education or a related field at a four-year institution
• Semester GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Full-time or part-time (minimum 6 credits)
• Renewable with a semester 2.5 GPA

General Assumptions:

• Full-time (12 credits+) $1000 year/$500 per semester
• Part-time (6 – 11 credits) $500 year/$250 per semester
• Funds to be used for tuition, fees, books and related expenses
• If student completely withdraws from all classes remaining funds are to be returned to the SD Club Account.

STIHL INC, Scholarship

Description:

Established by STIHL, Inc. to further strengthen their partnership with Tidewater Community college through the advancement of student development in the fields of advanced manufacturing, including Mechtronics, Engineering Technology, and/or Engineering. One $5,000 scholarship will be awarded annually to an exemplary student.  Award may be used for tuition, books, fees, and/or tools.

Criteria:

Student must be enrolled in Mechtronics, Engineering Technology, or Engineering at TCC.

Student may be a full-time or part-time student

Student must have an overall GPA of 3.0 from high school or from other studies undertaken.

Students must be complete an application which will include a short essay outlining their interest in advanced manufacturing and related courses of study.  Their essay shall also include a reflection of their career goals.

Students must meet the TCC application deadlines.

Applications will be collected by the financial aid office, and qualifying candidates will be reviewed by a committee to include representatives from TCC faculty, the TCC Educational Foundation (TCCEF), financial aid, and STIHL, Inc.  The candidate will be selected based on academic and professional competencies.

Top Guard Security Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship has been established by Top Guard Security to support students studying in the Administration of Justice Program at TCC. Two scholarships will be awarded per year. 

Criteria:

• Student must be enrolled in the Administration of Justice program at TCC

Student may be a full -time or part-time student
• If a new student at TCC, student must have a high school GPA of 3.0
• If a continuing student at TCC, student must have and overall GPA of 3.0
• Student must be a Virginia resident

VCCS Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship

Description:

The purpose of the Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship Program is to increase access to higher education and to develop student leadership potential. A $3,000 scholarship will be awarded for the fall 2012 and spring 2013 semesters.  Awards may be used for tuition/fees and books and supplies. 

Criteria:

Commonwealth Legacy Scholars will be students attending college for the first time at a Virginia Community College.

Selections will be based on merit.

Scholars will demonstrate academic excellence during high school.

Scholars will demonstrate a willingness to promote community college education  and the Commonwealth Legacy Scholarship Program.

Scholars will demonstrate a willingness to mentor future scholars.

Scholars will demonstrate a commitment to developing leadership potential.

Students must be full-time, associate’s degree seeking students with plans to graduate from a Virginia Community College.

If selected, recipients agree to:

          Attend an orientation developed for Commonwealth Legacy Scholars

        Participate in a minimum of two state-wide events annually

        Participate in the annual Student Leadership program

Note: The cost of these events will be funded.

Visual Arts Center Academic Scholarship

 

Description:

VAC scholarships are awarded to current and incoming VAC students who are enrolled in one of our degree programs.

Criteria:

Awards are based on a review of a six piece portfolio judged by a

   committee of VAC full time faculty. This judging usually takes place in June.

Scholarship recipients must take at least six credit hours in the fall and

  spring semesters.

Visual Arts Center Anniversary Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established in 2010 by Darrell and Sally Craig to celebrate the 15th anniversary of TCC’s Visual Arts Center. The scholarship may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other expenses associated with the Visual Arts Center Programs.

Criteria:

• Student must be enrolled in degree program at the Visual Arts Center at TCC.

• Student can be a full-time or part-time student.

• Student must have not yet met the cost of attendance for the year.

• If a continuing student at TCC, student must have an overall GPA of 2.0.

• If a new student at TCC, student must have a high school GPA of 2.8.

• Student must submit a portfolio demonstrating aptitude in the arts as determined by the Director of the Visual Arts Center and two Visual Arts Center faculty members.

Willcox & Savage Leadership Scholarship

Description:

This scholarship was established to honor the lawyers and staff of Willcox & Savage for their long and outstanding support of civic endeavors in the Tidewater community.

Criteria:

• Student can be from any TCC campus with preference for a student from

   Norfolk or Virginia Beach
•  Student must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher
• Recipient should write a note of thanks to Willcox & Savage Law Firm

William E. Wood Scholarship

Description:

Named for William E. Wood, founder of William E. Wood & Associates (realty company), this scholarship is intended to support a student pursuing a degree in business. The scholarship funds should be applied to tuition and fees.

Criteria:

• Student must be a full-time student (minimum 12 credit hours per semester)
• Student must be a continuing student  with 24 credit hours completed
• Student must be enrolled in an A.S. degree program for business
• Student must have a GPA of 3.0 or higher

William E. Wood Scholastic Award Scholarship

Description:

The William E. Wood and Associates Foundation established the William E. Wood and Associates Scholastic Award to support Hampton Roads Students at Tidewater Community College. The scholarship funds should be applied to tuition, fees, books and other expenses associated with enrollment at Tidewater Community College.

Criteria:

• Student must can be a full-time or part-time student, and must have completed 18 credit hours.
• Student must have a declared program of study tracking toward an Associate of Science or Associate of Applied Science degree.
• Student must have documented community involvement. (Signed recommendation letter)
• Student must be a Hampton Roads resident or a resident of North Eastern North Carolina
